Your First Pour-over: A Gentle Starting Guide

Pour-over is a quiet way to understand coffee. It lets you see the bloom, feel the flow, and adjust one small detail at a time.

The bloom is coffee waking up — give it a little time.

Prepare the simple set

You need a dripper, filter paper, server or cup, grinder, kettle, and scale. Rinse the paper filter first. It warms the brewer and keeps the cup tasting cleaner.

Use a beginner-friendly recipe

  • 15 g coffee
  • 240 g water
  • Medium-fine grind
  • Bloom with 40 g water for 30 seconds
  • Pour the remaining water in slow circles

Adjust gently

If the cup tastes sharp or thin, grind a little finer. If it tastes heavy or bitter, grind a little coarser. Change only one thing at a time.

Good brewing is not a performance. It is a conversation with the cup.
